| The Support Services Division is responsible for administration of the Joplin City Jail, Police fleet vehicles, records bureau and police accreditation. Although less visible than the uniformed division, the highly skilled men and women of the Support Services Division work behind the scenes and play vital roles in the delivery of outstanding police services to the citizens of Joplin. The commander of the Support Services Division is Lieutenant Brian Lewis.
Lt. Lewis began his career with the Joplin Police Department as a patrol officer in October of 1994. Lewis was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 1998 and transferred to Investigations in 1999.
Lt Lewis served as a white collar crime investigator and was a member of the Tri-State Major Case Squad, which mainly investigates homicides.
In 2001 Lewis was promoted to the Rank of Detective Sergeant. Lewis was also charged with oversight of the evidence facility as Sergeant and he also helped establish a Fraud Alert Network for area financial institutions.
In August of 2007 Lewis assumed the role of Internal Affairs Sergeant. Lewis was also responsible for the recruitment of prospective officers.
In February of 2008 Lewis was transferred to the Support Services Division where he now serves as Lieutenant.
Lt. Lewis is also the current Accreditation manager.
