The Office of Professional Standards has been established to ensure that the Joplin community is receiving the highest quality of police services. To do so, this office handles internal affair concerns as well as developing officers through education and training. It is very important to maintain the integrity of the agency, both internally and externally. The citizens of Joplin have entrusted the men and women of the Joplin Police Department with the honor of protecting each person's Constitutional rights along with maintaining law and order in our community. The agency must be open to the concerns of both the public and the officers entrusted with these responsibilities. Complaints lodged by citizens are a process of "checks and balances" that permit the agency to address concerns. They also permit the department to update policy and provide important developmental training to the members of the agency. |
